“Arrr, matey.”
Captain Xander shielded the sun from his eyes with his hand and gazed
into the distance. The wind was picking up and land was still far away.
The sea was not his friend today. The choppy waters danced at the boat’s
side and Captain Xander held on lest he was swept from the deck and
plunged into the icy sea.
But what was this coming his way? Another pirate ship?
The waves crashed and the other ship collided with his. He held tight
and shouted a warning to his crew, but it was no good. They were
capsizing.
“Oh, Xander, honey. Can’t you play outside? I’m trying to get this
housework finished. Go and find Willow.”
Xander crawled out of his cardboard box and glared at both his mother
and the vacuum cleaner. “Willow has a belly full of rum,” he
said, indignantly. “And how am I supposed to rescue her? You made my
boat take on water!”
His mother sighed. “Would chocolate help?”
“Aye. Give it to me, good woman.”
“It’s on the kitchen table.”
Captain Xander patched up his boat and sailed into the kitchen. This
perilous journey would take him hundreds of miles off course but, hey,
Willow would understand. He would rescue her from inside the caves of
Toy Box Island and the thirty eight green pigmy soldiers that guarded
her, and when he did they would feast on Hershey’s.
And if they were lucky, dinner would be ready by then.
